Simple Rituals to Reset, Recharge and Move Forward
We've all experienced those days.
The difficult conversation that lingers in your mind long after it's over. The disagreement that leaves you feeling unsettled. The stressful meeting, frustrating phone call, or unexpected challenge that seems to follow you home.
Even when the situation itself has ended, the emotional weight of the experience can remain.
Many people describe it as feeling heavy, drained, overwhelmed, or simply "off."
While we can't always control what happens during the day, we can be intentional about how we release and process those experiences before they become something we continue carrying.
For me, that's where simple energetic rituals can be incredibly powerful.
They create a conscious pause between what happened and what happens next.
A way of acknowledging the experience, releasing what no longer serves you, and returning to yourself.
Why It's Important to Release Bad Day Energy
When we have a difficult day, we often continue replaying conversations, revisiting frustrations, and mentally carrying situations that are already over.
Over time, this can influence:
-
Our mood
-
Our sleep
-
Our relationships
-
Our energy levels
-
Our ability to be present
Many spiritual traditions teach that energy can linger long after an event has passed.
Whether you view this through an energetic, emotional, or psychological lens, creating rituals that help you intentionally let go can be incredibly supportive.
The goal isn't to ignore challenges.
The goal is to prevent temporary situations from becoming permanent emotional baggage.
The Cleansing Power of Water
Across countless cultures and spiritual traditions, water has long been associated with cleansing, purification, renewal, and release.
Water moves.
Water flows.
Water carries things away.
For this reason, one of my favourite practices after a particularly difficult day is intentionally using the shower as a cleansing ritual.
The Shower Reset Ritual
When you step into the shower, pause for a moment before turning your attention to the day.
As the water flows over you, repeat:
"I release the energy of today."
"I release anything that does not belong to me."
"I release anything that no longer serves me."
Repeat these phrases several times.
As you do, visualise the stress, tension, frustration, and emotional residue of the day leaving your body and flowing down the drain.
Imagine the water carrying away anything that feels heavy, overwhelming, or unresolved.
You don't need to force anything.
Simply allow yourself to release.
Many people find this ritual surprisingly calming because it combines intention, visualisation, and a physical action that symbolises letting go.
The Morning Tea Ritual
Sometimes a difficult interaction can continue occupying our thoughts well into the following day.
Perhaps you've had:
-
A disagreement with a friend
-
Tension within the family
-
A difficult conversation at work
-
An uncomfortable interaction that continues to replay in your mind
When this happens, I often turn to a simple tea ritual that has been shared through various forms of folk wisdom and superstition.
How to Perform the Tea Ritual
The following morning, prepare yourself a cup of tea.
As you think about the situation, begin stirring the tea slowly in an anti-clockwise direction.
As you stir, intentionally ask for:
-
The tension to soften
-
The situation to settle
-
The harshness of the interaction to reduce
-
A peaceful outcome for everyone involved
You may wish to silently repeat:
"May this situation soften."
"May harmony return."
"May any unnecessary tension be released."
Once finished, drink the tea slowly and completely.
Then allow yourself to take a deep breath and consciously let the situation go.
The ritual is not about controlling the outcome.
It is about releasing your attachment to the stress surrounding it.
Additional Ways to Reset Your Energy
Sometimes the simplest practices can create the greatest shifts.
When you're carrying the weight of a difficult day, consider:
Going Outside
Fresh air, sunshine, and contact with nature can help create a natural energetic reset.
Even a ten-minute walk can change how you feel.
Journalling
Write down everything you're carrying without editing or judging yourself.
Getting thoughts out of your head and onto paper often creates immediate relief.
Changing Your Clothes
Many people underestimate how powerful this can be.
Changing out of your work clothes and into something comfortable can create a psychological and energetic transition between one part of your day and the next.
Resting Without Guilt
Sometimes what we interpret as "bad energy" is simply exhaustion.
Not every difficult feeling requires fixing.
Sometimes it simply requires rest.
Creating Healthy Energetic Boundaries
One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is that not everything we encounter belongs to us.
Other people's stress.
Other people's frustration.
Other people's reactions.
Other people's fears.
While empathy is a beautiful quality, carrying everything around us is not sustainable.
Energetic practices can help remind us that we are allowed to care without carrying.
To witness without absorbing.
To support without becoming responsible for everyone else's experience.
A Fresh Start Is Always Available
Bad days happen.
Difficult conversations happen.
Stressful periods happen.
They are part of being human.
The important thing is remembering that you don't have to take them with you forever.
Whether you choose a cleansing shower, a morning tea ritual, time in nature, or a few moments of quiet reflection, these practices create an opportunity to release what no longer belongs in your energy.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply decide that today doesn't get to come with you into tomorrow.
Take a deep breath.
Let it go.
And begin again.
